The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday said its Public Health Department organised a special vector surveillance drive at the Maulana Azad Medical College here in the city, to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases.
Additional Commissioner (Public Health) Pankaj Agrawal and Municipal Health Officer LR Verma led the drive, deploying a public health team for vector surveillance, fogging, focal spray, and anti-larval work across the campus, including hostels, administrative blocks, hospitals, parking, and construction sites, it said.
“During the inspection, solid waste, including plastic containers and potential breeding sites, was identified. A total of 43 personnel were deployed during the drive. Out of 1,750 containers checked, breeding was found in three containers, which were destroyed on-site,” the civic body said.
The MCD informed that almost all parts of the campus were covered for vector surveillance, with the cooperation of the college staff.
A meeting was also held to discuss vector surveillance and the prevention of vector-borne diseases cases on campus.
The Additional Commissioner said that the MCD will continue to monitor and implement measures to ensure a healthy environment.
“The MCD is fully committed to taking proactive steps to protect the citizens of Delhi from vector-borne diseases,” he added.
Earlier, the MCD said it has implemented a multi-pronged strategy to prevent and control the spread of vector borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya in the national capital.
The civic body said meetings were conducted under the chairmanship of the Mayor and Commissioner to ensure effective coordination and implementation of vector-borne diseases control measures.
