The AAP on Friday hit out at the BJP alleging that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi failed to deseal shops that were sealed despite a proposal passed by the civic body.

Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said despite the order of the apex court’s judicial committee, the MCD is not de- sealing the shops that were earlier sealed about six years ago on directions of the apex court’s monitoring committee.

Bharadwaj alleged that the central government was standing with the MCD commissioner who was not ready to accept the proposal passed by the house.

Delhi minister Atishi has said that the AAP government in MCD and Delhi stands with the traders and shopkeepers and will fight for their rights from the streets to the courts.

According to the AAP leader Bharadwaj, it was since 2017 that many shops in the Defence Colony, Rajendra Nagar, Greater Kailash, Green Park, South Extension and other markets had been sealed, which has affected the employment of many people.

Bharadwaj said that officials are suspended over a small mistake, while in this case the traders and businessmen have faced losses running into crores and still nothing was being done.

Meanwhile, recently the proposal for the de- sealing of the shops was passed during a session of the MCD amid the ruckus, along with the passing of another proposal.

Bharadwaj also said that several traders approached the court after the sealing and the Supreme Court noticed that several cases were coming up with regard to the issue and formed a two judge judiciary committee, which continuously heard cases between 2022- 2023 and on December 18 2023, the judicial committee ordered that sealing of shops in the local shopping centres was not legal as the MCD cannot ask for conversion charges as they were already built in commercial spaces.
