A spell of heavy rains in Delhi on Friday delayed some flights besides causing the familiar traffic jam in the city. While the showers brought the temperatures down, the rains led to a congestion of air traffic over the national capital leading to the delay of many flights.
A delay of up to 45 minutes till 8 pm is expected.
Jet Airways put out a Twitter notification regarding the status of its flights.
“Due to air traffic congestion in Delhi consequent to heavy rains, arrival and departure delays of up to 45 minutes are expected at Delhi airport till 20:00 hrs,” the notification read.
“Guests are requested to plan their travel accordingly for a seamless check-in and boarding experience,” it added.
Flights coming from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Srinagar, Lucknow and Indore have been either diverted or delayed.
The situation on the roads was as bad as on any day when it rains.
Waterlogging in many parts created traffic disruptions. The Delhi Traffic Police kept commuters updated with information about waterlogged stretches.
Rajapuri Chowk, Palam Flyover, Old Gurugram Road towards Rao Mata Din Marg Crossing, Wazirabad Road, Bhajan Pura Main Road and Khajuri Chowk were among the areas for which traffic advisory was issued due to waterlogging.
The temperature in Delhi was 29 degree Celsius at 5 pm with the humidity level at 83 per cent. This is the second straight day of heavy showers. On Thursday, rains lashed parts of the national capital in the evening which resulted in long traffic jams during peak hours.
