Delhi Police register 2 FIR over JNU clashes

The Delhi Police on Friday have registered two FIRs in connection with the clashes that took place in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus between two groups.

According to a senior police official, a scuffle took place in JNU between two sets of students on Thursday near Narmada Hostel, leaving two students injured during the incident.

The incident allegedly started between two groups of students while partying in campus and took a wild turn over some minor issue.

A few video clips were also circulated on social media, claiming to be of the incident. In the viral video, one can see some students running in the campus with sticks and stones.

Manoj C, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), on the incident said,  “On the complaint of Nishant Nagar, a JNU student, a case under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC has been registered. And on the complaint of another student, Kartik, a case under similar sections has also been registered. Both cases have been registered at the Vasant Kunj North police station.”

He further added that a PCR call was received regarding the fight among students near Narmada hostel.

However, there was no political involvement in Thursday’s clashes, the police said.
