Delhi Education Minister Atishi visited the city government’s first-of-its-kind Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS) and interacted with the students virtually from the school’s state-of-the-art studio.
During the visit, she also launched the first digital magazine of DMVS and reviewed the DMVS test prep platform for DMVS and DOE students.
The Education Minister said school education in the national capital is often disrupted during extreme weather conditions such as heatwaves in summers and fog in winters.
However, through DMVS, the Education Department will make all government schools in Delhi hybrid, ensuring that the education of the children is not adversely affected by the extreme weather conditions, she said.
Enthused with the success of DMVS, Atishi directed officials to prepare a hybrid learning plan by combining the DMVS and physical school models.
DMVS, started by the Kejriwal government in 2022, provides virtual schooling for students from Classes 9 to 12. It also assists Delhi government school students in preparing for exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
While interacting with the students, she said: “DMVS is helping the Kejriwal Government craft a new education pathway. With DMVS, our focus is to ensure that every child gets the high-quality education that we are providing to our children through the Delhi Education Model.”
She said various reasons prevent children from attending a physical school, or they have to migrate to another city to get a high-quality education.
“This is the reason why DMVS was established. We wanted to ensure that all children get high-quality education from the comfort of their own homes and follow their passion. DMVS offers a model to make all schools hybrid so that schooling is not disrupted in any condition,” Atishi said.
Sharing her observations, she further said, “The virtual classes of DMVS are very interactive, and the quality of individual interaction with students is better than what we usually see in a physical class. The hard work of DMVS teachers has helped us come up with quality academic material for the preparation of competitive exams like JEE, NEET, CUET, which will now be made available for others.”
The Delhi Education Minister also directed officials that a plan should be prepared to adopt the DMVS model on a larger scale so that children’s education does not stop even during instances of pollution, cold waves, or any other unforeseen circumstances.
She interacted with students during a live class and, while boosting their confidence, remarked that the excellent model of DMVS has shown a new path to virtual learning. The Delhi Education Minister emphasized that the students in the current batch are the flag-bearers of this virtual education revolution in India.
Atishi said in today’s era, the model of DMVS has become extremely crucial. During the previous year, it was observed that due to factors like rain, floods, severe cold, and pollution, schools had to be closed multiple times. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, schools remained closed for an extended period, causing a setback to children’s education. DMVS provides a solution to these challenges, she added.
While giving directions to officials, she also mentioned that a plan should be prepared for adopting the DMVS model on a larger scale. This would ensure that even during instances of pollution, severe weather, or any other unexpected holidays, children’s education does not come to a halt, Atishi added.
During the interaction with the students, the Delhi Education Minister asked students about their experiences with DMVS. Students said they find virtual school better than physical school because it helps them learn at their own pace. Moreover, teachers use innovative tech-savvy methods to teach and resolve queries, which is not normally practiced or seen in a physical school, said a student.
Another student shared that experiential learning and learning through real-life examples are the most attractive parts of DMVS. “Live sessions, mentoring sessions, tutorials, and assignments provided by the school have helped them understand the concepts better,” said the student.
The Delhi Education Minister further directed the team of DMVS to explore the feasibility of conducting classes in the evening shift for students who need flexibility in time and are engaged in other activities in the morning.
