As the nation gets ready to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October, the Delhi chapter of Sarvodaya International Trust and India International Centre organised a special programme ‘Celebrating Gandhi’ to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The event was held on Saturday at the CD Deshmukh Auditorium, where the young students of Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, mesmerised the gathering with a choir performance.
Senior students of the school delivered a beautiful performance during which they recited poetry and letters calling for an affirmation of love and faith in the Mahatma.
The students were dressed up as eminent personalities who were part of the Mahatma’s life such as Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Jawaharlal Nehru.
Pavan K Varma, author of ‘Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism’s Greatest Thinker’, was the chief guest of the event.
Varma, who is also a politician and former diplomat, spoke on the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya and Mahatma Gandhi and the similarities between their beliefs.
He called on the gathering to imbibe the teachings of both Shankaracharya and the Mahatma for the sake of world peace.
