Cracking a sensitive kidnapping case of a seven-year old, Delhi Police safely rescued the child and reunited him with his parents, Deputy Commissioner of Police North East Delhi Dr Joy Tirkey said on Tuesday.
The boy was rescued from Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal area where the accused had taken him after kidnapping him from Delhi.
The accused had asked the child to call his mother, asking for ransom money, and also tried to drown the kid in the river Ganga, the police said.
On March 13, the police got a call regarding the kidnapping of a boy from his house in Dayalpur, North- East Delhi, and a case was registered in this regard and a probe initiated.
The team was properly briefed and directed to be alert and handle the case with utmost sensitivity to safely rescue the kidnapped child, and also nab the culprit at the earliest.
The CCTV footage played a crucial role in solving the case. The team analysed the footage of the entire vicinity around the child’s house, and finally managed to identify the person, also taking inputs from the local sources.
The suspect was traced using technical surveillance, and was zeroed down to the Kalkatti Mandir, Sambhal on the banks of river Ganga in Bulandshahr district of UP.
The accused was finally found hiding at the Railway station in Rajghat village who tried to flee after seeing the police team approaching the spot. However, he was chased and nabbed by the police team.
The accused was identified as Viresh alias Veeru, and the police also found that he was a neighbour of the victim, and one of the reasons behind the crime bid was to extract money from the family. The accused was addicted to alcohol and wanted to use the ransom amount for the same.
The child was reunited with his family members.
The rescued boy informed that the kidnapper called his parents and demanded money, and also tried to drown him in the river Ganga, so sections 364-A and 307 IPC were also added in the case.
During the sustained interrogation, Viresh admitted to the crime and disclosed that he was carrying a grudge with the child’s family and wanted to teach them a lesson, so he kidnapped the child.
