Following the notification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, the Delhi Police continued to keep a vigil on the sensitive areas of the city and conducted a flag march in some areas of the North East district on Tuesday.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order zone- 1) Ravinder Yadav, along with Addl. CP Eastern range and Deputy Commissioner of Police North East District, led a flag march on the 66 Futa Road and covered areas falling under the Police Stations Seelampur, Jafrabad and Welcome.
According to a police official, such measures are important to ensure safety of people in view of the upcoming general elections as the visible presence of police on roads not only deters potential wrongdoers but also fosters a sense of security within the community, promoting a collaborative effort between citizens and the police to create safer environments.
On Monday night, police personnel carried out patrolling across several areas and also conducted checking.
The police have been urging people not to pay heed to rumours and help the police in the implementation of the safety measures.
Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in the areas of the South East district, near the Jamia University.
Back in 2019-2020, the city witnessed protests against the CAA in sensitive areas such as the Shaheen Bagh of the SE district, while riots had taken place in the NE district areas.
A police official said that they had been reaching out to people from different communities and have cleared all rumors and myths about the new laws.
It has been conveyed while doubts have been cleared stating that the CAA does not have anything to do with existing citizens of the country.
On Monday, the NE DCP had given assurance to the minorities saying that the step was for the betterment and that no one would have any problem with it.
Through the Aman committees, which is a platform for inter-community brotherhood, all the queries from different communities have been addressed in this regard, the police official had said.
