In a major embarrassment for Haryana Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Subhash Barala’s son Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar, the local court in Chandigarh on Tuesday denied to grant bail to both of them in a stalking incident. The development took after the court had sought Chandigarh polices’ reply on the bail application filed by both Vikas and Ashish.
The bail plea was dismissed by the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Barjinder Pal Singh. Both the accused shall continue to remain in jail as per the court orders.
The Chandigarh Police in its reply submitted in the court on Tuesday, said that both the accused should not be granted bail. Sources said, after denying the bail by a lower court, the duo may file the bail application in the High Court.
Both the accused were arrested for allegedly stalking Radio Jockey Varnika Kundu, who is the daughter of a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, on a Chandigarh road on 5 August. The case triggered a massive furor and brought the issue of women’s safety on centre stage.
