Chinese Metro rakes to be soon brought on tracks

The metro commuters in the city will soon be able to enjoy comfortable journey as Kolkata Metro Railway authorities are mulling over plans to commission the new Chinese rakes in the next two to three months.

The Chinese rakes brought from Dalian in the first week of March, include several modern technologies to provide better travelling experiences to the commuters. From high-tech CCTV cameras, latest talkback system, enhanced passenger evacuation system to high capacity air conditioning system, all are part of the stateof- the-art rake from China.

“The new Medha rakes three in number are already put into service,” informed Mr P.C. Sharma, general manager, metro railway.

“Efforts are being made to introduce few more in the system. Also, Chinese rakes from Dalian are already undergoing trials and are likely to be rolled on the tracks in two to three months,” he added.

The general manager, speaking on the sidelines of the 64 Railway Week celebrations, said, “Work of East West Corridor of Metro Railway is in full swing. While the elevated section of Salt Lake metro stretching over six km consisting of six stations, is going to be commissioned shortly, the Dakhineshwar-Noapara leg will be operational within the current financial year.”
