The Chinese Consulate in Kolkata has invited Indian students, particularly from Bengal, to the ‘Chinese Higher Education Expo 2018’, in which more than 60 universities are supposed to participate. The forthcoming expo will be held on 10 and 11 May at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.

Talking about the initiative, Mr Ma Zhanwu, Chinese Consul General, said: “Around 62 universities, offering more than 100 specialisations, will participate in the expo. These universities, both private and government concerns, will also offer full and partial scholarships to students.”

For ease of the students, the Chinese Consulate in Kolkata will provide on-spot visa enquiry service with expedient processing facilities. “The students will get admission into Chinese universities based on their performance in the academics in Indian institutes and no entrance test would be required for enrolment,” informed Mr Zhanwu.

“More than 18,000 students are already studying in various universities in China. The expo will provide a plethora of options to more and more Indian students who want to pursue higher education in China. The courses offered would mostly be in English. Students getting recruited after completion of studies would be able to avail visa for as long as they would want to,” he added.

Answering to the question on the benefits of Indian students studying in China, the Consul General said that as getting admission into institutes like Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Management is rather difficult, there are really good universities in China who want to attract foreign students, particularly students from India.

He further added that the courses offered include medicine, engineering, history, Chinese language and many more. Several vocational training courses in the field of cooking are also available at good institutes in various parts of China.

Inviting the students to the largest Chinese higher education expo, Mr Zhanwu further informed that the inauguration ceremony is likely to include Mr Partha Chatterjee, education minister of Bengal, Mr Subrata Mukherjee, minister of public health engineering, Panchayat and Rural Development, along with several other eminent dignitaries.
