The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) is deploying 150 radio fitted mobile vans along with eight additional emergency generators prior to the board examination period scheduled next month to ensure uninterrupted power supply at a time when students spend long hours studying for the exams.
Two additional helpline numbers have been put up for the same. Addressing a Press conference, Mr Avijit Ghosh, vice president, said “The CESC had long started taking preparations to provide uninterrupted power supply during the examination season starting next month.
We ensure every year that our consumers get uninterrupted power supply during the examination month~February to April~ helping students prepare for their board examination. The CESC command station in Dalhousie Square would be monitoring the networks.”
“During the exam months, CESC will remain constantly in touch with the exam authorities while a fleet of 150 radio-fitted mobile vans will be doing rounds across the CESC licensed areas in the city, both in the day and night, to attend to any emergency situation.
These vans would enable company’s experts to reach any site at the earliest possible opportunity. We are also lining up eight additional emergency generators to provide power supply in case of any power-cuts.
Two special helplines-9831079666 and 9831083700- are being put up to keep in touch with the examination centre authorities. The special help-lines will remain active till 13 April from 9a.m. to 4p.m,” said Mr Ghosh.
A CESC spokesperson added, “We are well aware of the fact that exam times are so crucial that even parents get involved in the pre-exam preparations and require sufficient power supply.
The power consumption doubles during these exam months.” In addition to all these measures, CESC has been conducting inspection of overhead wires in some areas while monitoring networks and conducting installation checks.
The company is further launching a campaign highlighting the dos and dont’s to get the best possible light during studies which includes keeping a correct distance from the table lamp to prevent eye fatigue.
As a safety measure, consumers are also advised not to touch any electrical switch with wet hands while carefully disconnecting electrical plugs from the supply point.
