Centre clears project to improve Badrinath facilities

Tourism facilities will be developed at major Hindu pilgrimage centre at Badrinath under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.

Annually thousands of devotees from far and near visit Badrinath to offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. Located in district Chamoli, the pilgrimage centre will offer additional facilities to the tourists in the times to come.

The Ministry of Tourism has approved a project worth Rs 39 Crore for enhancing facilities at Badrinath. Under the scheme new parking, change room, cloakroom, canteen, information centre, waiting hall, etc will be constructed for convince of the tourists.

Secretary tourism Dilip Jawalkar said, “The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Corporation will be the implementing agency. The aim is to make Badrinath one of the most sought after destinations in the next two years.”

Last year Badrinath attracted 8.84 Lakh tourists. The portals of the Hindu shrine will be thrown open, after six months of winter break on coming 30 April. Under the PRASAD project, change room will be constructed at Triptkund and Naradkund.

Better management of solid waste and drainage will be ensured to ensure high sanitation. To provide a big relief to the visitors, big parking will be developed in the holy township. It is generally observed that during the peak tourism season traffic jam becomes a routine thing at Badrinath.
