In view of the notification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) on Monday, security has been stepped up in sensitive areas of the national capital.
Flag march was also conducted in the sensitive North East district during the past two days for the assurance of public safety, a police official said.
The official added that more forces will be added and flag marches will also take place on Tuesday.
DCP, North East, Joy Tirkey has said that the police have tagged trouble makers at the beat constable level, and are monitoring their activities.
He said that the police were sure that things were going to be peaceful in the North East district.
Speaking about the CAA, he said that the move is a step towards betterment, and urged the people not to heed any rumours and in any such cases contact the police.
He further said that the police are monitoring social media accounts as well and have asked people through ‘Aman Committees’ to report about any rumor and also do not believe in any such misinformation.
Through the Aman Committees, which is a platform for inter- community brotherhood, all queries from different communities have been addressed, the police official said.
Security has also been stepped up in the South East district, which is also a sensitive area, and had witnessed protests against the CAA while the North East district had witnessed riots in 2020 over the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens).
Additional police force will also be deployed in a bid to ensure safety of people and flag march is likely to take place on Tuesday in the sensitive areas.
