At least six people were charred to death when their bus came in contact with a high tension wire in the Mardah area of the district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police said.
Around 10 people were seriously injured in the incident, they said.
According to police, the death toll may go up and the deceased are yet to be identified.
The ill-fated bus was carrying a marriage party who were going to Bhairo temple for the event in the Mardah area. The bus was stopped at the barrier near Mahahardham and the bride got down from the bus and went to the temple on foot.
After this, the driver took the bus through a canal track and started taking it to the temple. Meanwhile, the vehicle touched the 11,000 kilowatt high tension wire hanging on the road, they said.
Police said 20 people were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident.
District Magistrate Aryaka Akhauri, SP Omveer Singh and block chief Pati Dharmendra Singh reached the spot. Two cabinet ministers, including A K Sharma, also rushed to the site.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences over the incident, and announced Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Reports also said that agitated locals threw stones at the police.
