Bill Gates to assist Uttar Pradesh in tackling child malnutrition

Microsoft co-founder and co-chair of the Gates Foundation, Bill Gates on Friday met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and expressed his willingness to tackle the issue of child malnutrition in the state.

In a series of tweets, the UP CM’s office said: “Mr. Gates expressed his willingness to work on issue of strengthening Anganwadi centers to tackle issue of child malnutrition and fortify their diets through existing government programs.”

As per reports, Gates and CM Yogi held discussions on a host of issues from malnutrition to maternal and neonatal health.

“Mr. Gates also stressed on the need to promote usage of birth spacing tools to help improve maternal and neonatal health in UP,” the CM office said.

Highlighting that the Gates foundation has a long expertise in sewage treatment solutions, Bill Gates said his organisation would like to work in UP to treat municipal waste and help clean rivers.

“Gates Foundation is also working on a better drug to treat tuberculosis faster and in a more effective manner, research is on and we hope to come up with this new drug in some years,” said Gates.

The Microsoft co-founder further said that he would like to help the state government in soil mapping through latest techniques and also increase level of awareness among farmers to use better seeds.
