Man gets 10 years in jail for acid attack

The additional district judge, Dharamgarh, Ramkrushna Choudhury, on Friday sentenced one Parsuram Majhi to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh after holding him guilty in a case of acid attack that had occurred on 1 January last year.

The fine amount,on realisation, will be paid to the victim girl towards her medical expenses and contribute towards the rehabilitation of the victim as per her educational qualification under any scheme of the government.

The ADJ Ramkrushna Choudhury in his judgement asked the District legal service authority to take appropriate action for payment of at least Rs 3 Lakhs compensation to the victim girl under NALSA and also instructed the district Magisrate cum collector Kalahandi for the rehabilitation of the girl under any government scheme as the victim girl is educated.

The case was conducted for prosecution by Dhirendranath Patra Additional public prosecutor and Aswmini Kumar Panda was the defense council advocate.

It was in the morning hours of 1 January 2018 , that the victim girl, 22, from Khandi Dangriguda village was going to Kalampur to attend computer classes. On the way she was attacked with acid near Bankapala village by Parsuram Majhi who was ‘in love’ with her and whom she had spurned.

The victim had snubbed the boy when he proposed to her. The accused then threw acid on the girl. The accused Parsuram had absconded to Hyderrabad and tracking his mobile number Kalahandi police with the help of counterparts in Hyderabad had arrested him on 21 January 2018.
