Social media is abuzz with posts about Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev flying to London for a knee surgery. Based on this, a section of people have started campaigning against the Baba, accusing him of promising miracle cures to people while going abroad for his own knee operation.
The Patanjali Yogpeeth has, however, clarified that Ramdev is fit and fine and currently busy with a camp for trainees from Nepal in Haridwar and practicing all the normal and complicated Yoga postures.
The 5-day camp for participants from Nepal started on 1 May. The Yogpeeth denied reports about Ramdev’s knee surgery. Its spokesperson S.K Tijarawala said, “Truth is basis of Indian lifestyle and circulating such baseless information is not recommended. Irresponsible people are involved in such acts. Baba Ramdev is fit.”
It has become routine for Patanjali Yogpeeth to find bogus information about Baba Ramdev on social media. Most of the time the Yogpeeth does not react.
Very recently a woman from Punjab approached the Haridwar office with a message which claimed that one can earn Rs 15,000 per month by sending a text message about Patanjali Yogpeeth products.
Similar cases of dubious people collecting money as fee for recruitment test of Patanjali Yogpeeth came to light. In 2016, rumours about Baba Ramdev suffering a heart attack had gone viral.
The Yoga Guru is now being accused of cheating Indians in the name of ‘Swadeshi’ and escaping to London for his knee surgery. The Yogpeeth put out a photograph of Ramdev stretching his legs at the ongoing Yoga camp in Haridwar as a clarification.
