To seek a favor, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Punjab touched a Punjab minister’s feet but instead what he got was prompt suspension on the direction of the minister who got furious over the cop’s action.
The ASI was posted at Fatehgarh Churian police station and apparently visited the Cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa at his Qadian residence in order to seek some favor.
But soon as the uniformed cop touched Bajwa’s feet the latter so got to furious that he immediately called the up Inspector General (border) SPS Parmar and directed him to suspend the ASI for his conduct.
Taking prompt action, the ASI was served suspension order on his mobile phone and was sent to police lines with immediate effect.
The senior superintendent of police, Opinderjit Singh Grumman, justified the suspension saying such incidents bring disrepute to the police force and touching the minister’s feet amounted to misconduct on the part of the ASI.
He said instead of approaching ministers for transfers or promotions, police officers should plead their case through proper channel in the police department.
On his part, the minister, Bajwa, said he has already pasted messages at his residences in Qadian and Chandigarh directing the visitors against touching his feet but the ASI still touched his foot which was not acceptable.
