With Shimla facing worst ever water crisis, Indian Army on Sunday joined the relief operations and is providing Army water bowsers to Municipal Corporation round the clock to assist in ferrying water to far reaches of the town.
An Indian Army spokesperson said the ‘Queen of Hills’ has been facing an ever-increasing water shortage which has resulted in unprecedented suffering to the local citizens this year, especially in the heat of summers and peak tourist season.
The government and the local administration, as well as Municipal Corporation, are putting in tremendous efforts to alleviate the shortage by hiring extra water bowsers. With the situation reaching critical levels, the Indian Army has also offered to help contain the situation and actively joined the relief efforts of the administration, he said.
The Shimla based Headquarter of Army Training Command has also established a joint monitoring mechanism and instituted effective water saving measures, drastically reducing their own water consumption. As part of the efforts to alleviate the suffering of Shimla’s residents, the Indian Army has expressed its willingness in sharing their resources with the civil administration in this hour of crisis, he added.
