A day after the encounter of Mansoor alias Pehlwan, another criminal Vaseem was killed by Special Task Force (STF) in the jungle of Karanwal of Saroorpur area on late Thursday night.
The deceased gangster is the brother of dreaded Mukeem Kala, who is in jail.
Vaseem Kala, a native of Shamli, was carrying a reward of Rs 50, 000 and was controlling the gang in his brother’s absence.
Vaseem had cases of loot, extortion and murder against him, said Superintendent of Police (SP) STF Alok Priyadarshi.
Police have recovered a .32 bore pistol, cartridges and a Heo Honda Splendor motor-cycle with a sticker of ‘police’ on it from Vaseem’s possession, said SP-STF.
However, Vaseem’s aide Sabir, who is wanted for looting of a Tanishq showroom in Saharanpur, managed to escape during the encounter.
On Thursday, STF sleuths got a tip-off that Vaseem would be travelling to Meerut. The STF team laid a trap for the criminal.
Vaseem and his aide, Sabir, were spotted by the STF at the Karanwal jungle. Finding themselves trapped, the criminals started firing at the police team. Vaseem was killed in exchange of gunfire with the STF, .
On Tuesday midnight Mansoor alias Pehelwan was killed in encounter with the district police. Mansoor had also worked for Mukeem Kala.
In the past two months, Uttar Pradesh Police have carried out seven encounters with the criminals.
Police encounters with criminals in the state are being carried out after a gap of six years. The last encounter was reported in 2011 in which criminals Shakeel Kalia and Kuldeep Gujjar were killed.
