Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of 11 people who died in a massive fire incident at Alipur.
He also offered Rs 2 lakh each compensation to those who were severely injured in the incident.
Eleven people were killed, while four others got injured in the massive fire that broke out at a paint and chemical godown in Alipur area of outer Delhi Thursday evening.
According to the Delhi Fire Services, the blaze had struck two paint and chemical go- downs, a Nasha Mukti Kendra opposite to the go-down along with eight nearby shops.
Kejriwal also noted that the damage inflicted by the fire to nearby establishments will be ascertained, and a policy will be made to help and compensate those affected.
“No one can ascertain the value of a life, we will extend whatever help we can from our end,” he said.
He added that an enquiry will look into if the fire brigade reached late at the spot and why the godown was permitted to operate in a residential area.
Around 22 fire department vehicles were rushed to the spot to control the massive blaze which began around 5.25 pm and was brought under control by 9 pm.
