ADB to help in U’khand development

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be providing Uttarakhand Rs 1700 crore for sewage treatment and improving infrastructure in different cities of the state. A team of ADB, lead by India Resident Mission country director Kenichi Yokoyama, met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat in Dehradun on Monday.

The ADB representatives have consented, in principle, to give Rs 1700 crore to Uttarakhand for sewage treatment and other infrastructure development.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said, “Uttarakhand Government is committed to build and improve infrastructure in urban areas. The funds would be utilised at optimum level to develop infrastructure. The state government wants to ensure transparency in institutional processes and make it result-oriented.”

The ADB provides funds for building infrastructure, sewage plant and water supply for municipal corporations and urban areas.  Yokoyama said, “ADB can start reform program to make municipal bodies financially sound and to improve infrastructure. IT based waste billing and tax collection system could be started for municipal bodies. Main purpose of ADB is to use new technologies and resources.”

The Asian Development Bank has ensured Uttarakhand that the hill state would not face any and financial crunch and new projects would be considered.
