A massive fire broke in a godown containing plastics plates and glasses in Mansarovar Garden in west Delhi on Monday afternoon.
No casualty was reported, said an officer in Delhi Fire Service.
The fire gutted three buildings. The incident was reported at 3.45 p.m. about the fire in the building near Zakir hotel. As many as 20 fire tenders were pressed into action.
The building collapsed during the fire fighting operation.
“Luckily, the fire fighters escaped with their lives. The cooling operation is underway now. No casualty has been reported from the spot,” the officer told The Statesman.
The building contained some bundles of equipment in the godown on the ground floor where the fire first broke out. The fire spread from the first floor to the third floor. Prima facie, the fire was caused due to electrical short circuit, the official added.
Goods in the shops of the building were gutted but no one was reported injured in the fire, he said.
During the dousing of the fire, the whole building, weakened by the heat, collapsed, the official said.
It took the firefighters over two hours to bring the fire under control. Police said that the cause of the fire was under investigation, but the possibility of a short circuit could not be ruled out.
