Piramal Sarvajal, the philanthropic arm of Piramal Group organised a two day ‘Safe Drinking Water’ awareness drive here to coincide with the World Water Day.
Bhubaneswar currently has a network of four stateof- the-art Water Purifications Units (Hubs) and 40 Solar Powered – Cloud Connected water dispensing units (Spokes / Water ATMs), installed by Piramal Sarvajal.
It is part of the Public-Private- Partnership between Piramal Saravajal and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Anuj Sharma, CEO, Piramal Sarvajal said, “Settingup of drinking water units alone cannot solve the problem, it also requires continuous and sustained engagement with communities.
We believe when communities are educated on the benefits of safe drinking water, it translates into better health outcomes in the long run.”
Reports submitted by various state health departments indicate that 1,412 deaths were attributed to diseases caused by contaminated water in the year 2017.
A report from Keonjhar district said the Tata Steel’s OMQ (Ore, Mines & Quarries) Division and West Bokaro Division celebrated ‘World Water Day 2018’ with theme of the year “Nature for Water” on Thursday by organising a river bed cleaning drive at Sona river of Joda.
At least 300 people participated in the drive. An expert session on conservation and management of water was convened at Joda Valley Club.
Kavita Pati and Veerabaswant Reddy from The Energy and Resources Institute, K R Gopinath, chairman of KRG Rain Water Foundation and Sajid Idris from INTACH delivered technical sessions on water management.
