Sensex, Nifty give up day’s early gains

Indian markets started Thursday’s session on a positive note amid gains in Asian peers. The Sensex rose as 103.9 points to touch 38,702.89 in the initial minutes of the trading. Similarly, NSE Nifty moved to 11,480.90, up 16.9 points from its last close.

The Sensex was up around 20.13 points, or 0.05 percent to 38619.12 at 1137 hours. But the Nifty fell to 4.05 points or 0.04 per cent to 11,454.

Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Coal India (1.39%), IndusInd Bank (1.01%), Asian Paints (0.96%), M&M (0.76%), HDFC Bank (0.66%).

On the other hand, the companies that fell are—Vedanta (-2.81 %), Tata Steel (-1.42%), Kotak Mahindra (-1.01%), ONGC (-1.02%), Power Grid Corp (-0.83%).

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued to be net buyers in the financial market, Rs 686.33 crore on Wednesday. The Domestic Institutional Investors offloaded stocks worth Rs 1,576.73 crore in the previous session, the data available with the stock exchange showed.
