An expert in the management of water resources in South Asian countries including India, Kenichi Yokoyama has assumed responsibilities on Tuesday as the new country director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) India Resident Mission here.
Immediately upon taking charge, Yokoyama expressed ADB’s commitment to work closely with the Central government to help it in its efforts towards rapid economic development of the country.
Underlining ADB’s ever strengthening partnership with India and its contribution towards its economic development by way of ‘transferring knowledge and building capacities’ the newly appointed ADB country director said: “ I will work closely with the Government of India to take this partnership forward and reconfirm our commitment to help India strengthen its core infrastructure and other requirements for its rapid economic transformation.”
Having long experience of working with the government of Japan in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, Yokoyama was heading the Nepal Resident Commission of the Manila-based international organisation. He replaces M Teresa, now posted as Deputy Director General of ADB’s East Asia Development in Manila.
“Since joining ADB in 1999, Yokoyama has consistently worked for its operations in South Asia covering the water resources sector. He contributed to the expansion of relevant programme in the sector in Bangladesh, India and Nepal and is regarded as one of the most trusted experts in water resources management and project implementation in ADB,” an ADB press note stated here.
