Expected tax relief buoys Indian markets, Sensex runs hits 40,000, Nifty above 11,800

Hopes of tax sops for equity investors along with hopes of healthy quarterly results buoyed Indian markets higher during the intraday trade on Wednesday.

At 1200 hours the Market benchmark BSE Sensex was running at 40,057.39 over 200 points or 0.57 per cent from its previous close of 39,831.84. It had opened at 40,055.63 and has so far touched an intra-day high of 40,100.26 and a low of 39,920.67.

Similarly, the Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange traded at 11,843.00, up by 56.15 points or 0.48 per cent from its previous close.

Infosys with 3.04 per cent; SBI with 2.53 per cent, and ITC at 2.55 percent were the top three gainers, whereas, Coal India with a fall of 1.60 per cent; Tata Motors with -1.30, and Maruti Suzuki with -1.24 were the top drags till the story was filed.
