Indian education system is evolving in many ways, owing to the advancement of technology as well as rapid change of mentality of the people of all segment of society. Government intervention in merging pedagogy system of education has taken to a new avenue, opening new doors of opportunities for both the educator as well as student. There are two segments in every education system, teacher and learner.
In a traditional system, the teacher narrates a topic to students, held demonstration of the topic occasionally, and then assessed the students. However, not all has the same grasping capabilities, due to which traditional models of education are gradually paving way for newer innovative methods.
The Government has acknowledged the limitations of existing pedagogy system and take initiative of incorporating Information and Communications Technology in the education system. With the help of it, teachers can easily explain the complex situations and the students can retain information better, remembering the visual explanation of a particular situation for a longer time. When education is infused with technology, learning is augmented, which deeply impacts a student’s learning experience. Information communications supports learning through video chat or online distance learning, meaning a student from any remote area can easily have quality education from any institution of the world.
For a country like ours, modern age methodologies can have a transformational impact on our society and the economy as a whole. Moreover, since the learning process becomes interactive and comprehensive, it sparks an interest in students leading to greater attentively and attendance at schools. This creates an environment, conducive to learning.
India is emerging as a superpower and it cannot function without the support of information and communications technology. The gap between demand and supply of higher education has urged the government and institutions of the country to formulate policies and initiatives so that it can easily integrate with technology. The central and state government have taken various initiatives for integration of technology with education system. Since the past two to three decades, our system of learning has been plagued by many challenges such as lack of students, poor infrastructure, lack of quality teacher, and a standard curriculum, to name a few. With the integration of technology in schools, education in India is poised for a paradigm shift, where the education system will be compatible with international education standard.
However, there are many hurdles for its successful integration. Information and Communications Technology requires Internet, computer based infrastructure and also satellite support and the process of installation is expensive.
Moreover, teachers need to be efficiently trained to understand the systems and how they can utilise its numerous benefits best to successfully impart knowledge to the students. In the current digital day and age, it is imperative that institutes integrate be attuned to the modern needs and requirement of students.
The use of technology in learning not only results in the cognitive, social and emotional development, but also has a major motivational influence on his/her learning capabilities. It is proven that students harness positive feelings towards education when they use computers to complete tasks, encouraging and motivating them to learn.
This way, children gain a myriad of enriching learning experiences, crucial not only to their future success and also the country.
