Hyderabad: Mahindra Ecole Centrale College of Engineering organized its first Undergraduate Research Symposium.
URS showcased the research focus of the students of the 3rd and 4th year using poster and oral presentations.
There were 60 posters and 12 select oral presentations made at the symposium on contemporary fields as varied as big data analytics, blockchain technology, metamaterials, seismic analysis, financial modelling and microfluidics, etc.
All of the 60 poster presentations and 12 oral presentations were assessed by an independent jury that composed of MEC faculty.
Prof. V. S. Raju, Former Director of IIT Delhi and Mr Vishnu Saran, a young entrepreneur, delivered the keynote addresses in the symposium. Prof. Raju in his keynote address dwelt on ‘Challenges and opportunities for Indian Engineers’.
He gave insights into the requirements, opportunities and challenges for the Indian Engineers in the present day context with India aiming to be economic and technology powerhouse in foreseeable future.
Mr Vishnu Saran shared his journey through a string of startups within a short span of time and highlighted about success and failure(s) as an integral part of such attempts and how the lessons learnt thereof eventually leads to success stories.
Director of MEC delivered the presidential address followed by remarks by Dean Academics and Dean Research that highlighted the importance of carrying out internship and research projects with conscientious efforts and dedication.
“URS@MEC 2018 was a culmination of certain interesting research work successfully carried out by the MEC students in the form of either internship or as research project associates with faculty as mentors. These students admirably demonstrated their skills and talents so much so that our plan is to expand the scope of this symposium to include external college students as well in the future” says Dr Yajulu Medury, Director of MEC.
