Career options after Class 12: New specialisation fields in engineering, law

For students starting their higher education this year, a big and tricky task is to choose their specialisation fields. And while several new specialisation fields are coming up every day, one should keep both career prospects and the future of the job market in mind while choosing an area of specialisation.

The real world is changing. This world is moving to a situation where a lot of jobs that exist today may not be there. One needs to work towards preparing for a world that is uncertain and forever evolving. Specialise in streams that one sees becoming more and more important in the world to come.
Keeping in mind the changes in the industries, universities are no longer offering just the straight forward programmes. Further specialisations, interdisciplinary courses, are all offered to help prepare a student for this industry evolution.

In every stream, be it engineering, management or even law, students have the option to go for new specialisation fields. Here are some of them.

Intellectual Property Law

This is one branch of law which is no longer confined to passing off trademarks and designs, in the age of patenting and designs, engineers can have an advantage if they can combine their technical expertise with law.

Cyber laws

With the advent of technology, society has witnessed a rise in cybercrimes and e-commerce, students can now study law from the angle of technology, their knowledge of computers comes handy in understanding both cybercrimes and electronic commerce.

BTech with specialisation in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

Students graduating from this program will be able to apply their knowledge in formulating solutions of real-world problems in all sectors and apply research skills towards identifying innovative and scientific solutions to develop new techniques in this specialized area. The program aims to provide a sound foundation in Computer Science / Computer Science & Engineering together with a thorough knowledge of mathematics and statistics that is required to comprehend and gain insights from the deluge of data collected from a variety of sources.

BTech with specialisation in Cyber Security

Students graduating from this program will be able to apply their knowledge in formulating solutions of real-world problems in all sectors and apply research skills towards identifying security threats and mitigating them. The program aims to provide a sound foundation in Computer Science / Computer Science & Engineering together with a thorough knowledge of the ways in which information is stored and transmitted in modern networked world.

MBA in Business Analytics

Business Analytics refers to the discipline of analysing data using explanatory as well as predictive modeling to derive insights from a large amount of data available. It essentially refers to processes and techniques which convert data into knowledge and insights that drive business decisions. MBA in Business Analytics helps one acquire knowledge and expertise on numerous analytical tools and use them to collect and analyse data for generation of business intelligence and support of different functional areas in an organisation.

Rural Management, MBA in Forensic Accounting and Corporate Fraud, specialising in Smart Cities and Sustainable Management while pursuing Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Humanitarian Law, etc. are a few more chart climbing specialisation fields that have opened up in the last few years.
