Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee urged people of Agartala to put up resistance and defeat the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly election.

He addressed a well-attended rally at Kamalpur in Tripura today.

Mr Banerjee said, “Time has come to defeat those who speak about a double-engine government. The Tripura government has not done any development work in the past five years and demanded that a report card stating the achievement of the BJP government should be published. Give me one hour’s time and I will come with a report of the achievements of the West Bengal government in the past five years.”

Mr Banerjee alleged that the BJP was mortally scared of Trinamul and even the venue of the meeting had to be changed following the pressure of the BJP-controlled administration. “Earlier they had tacked our leaders and even rooms were not allotted to them in hotels. BJP did all sorts of muscle flexing to scare us. But we are here to fight the election,” he said.

The national general secretary said the party had published the election manifesto and if voted to power, all the promises made in the manifesto will be implemented.

“Before 2021, Trinamul chairman Mamata Banerjee had assured to introduce Lakshmir Bhandar. Through the scheme Rs 500 is given to women from general caste up to 60 years and Rs 1,000 to the women belonging to SC and ST categories per month. Our students are getting loans up to Rs 10 lakh under Student Credit Cards. The Swasthya Sathi card helps an individual to receive costly medical treatment free-of-cost. Rest assured all schemes will be introduced in Tripura too.”

Coming down heavily on the saffron party, Mr Banerjee said people had voted against the CPM to put an end to 25 years of misrule as they had been swayed by the lies spread by the BJP. “In the past five years, people realised how they had been deceived by the BJP. This is BJP’s game everywhere. They speak one thing before the election and their real nature is revealed after polls are over.”

He urged the people to give Trinamul Congress a chance to serve the people and assured that it would be a better Tripura.
