A visa information and application centre was opened at Kolkata railway station on Monday, which is an international station.

Notably, Kolkata station handles two inter-dominion trains connecting Kolkata to Dhaka and Khulna in Bangladesh. To facilitate such overseas passengers availing visa services for Bangladeshbound trains, a visa information and application centre has been opened at Kolkata railway station.

The project has been conceptualized under the scheme of new-innovative ideas, according to the Eastern Railway.

The visa centre is to facilitate passengers for getting visas at their door-steps and provide information about application procedures which otherwise could be cumbersome for the passengers.

Meanwhile, as a part of implementation of ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ scheme, divisional railway manager, Sealdah, Deepak Nigam along with other divisional officers inspected Kolkata Terminal station a few days back.

As informed by the Eastern Railway, the objective of the inspection was to prepare a master plan for redevelopment of the station and improve the passenger amenities at Kolkata station to revamp it as a world class station.

He further inspected different safety items connected with safe and punctual running of train services.
