Trinamul Congress has demanded stern action by state administration and police against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari for spreading lies to create communal tension before the inauguration of Ram Temple at Ayodhya on 22 January.

In his post Mr Adhikari had alleged that the state power minister Aroop Biswas had instructed WBSEDCL for power cuts in different areas to prevent people from watching the opening of the temple on television. He said that many people from Burdwan have reported him and put up a notification that speaks about power cuts in different areas. On inquiry, it was found that the WBSEDCL had issued a notification on 22 Janu ary, 2023 that there would be power cuts in some areas due to maintenance work.

State Power minister Aroop Biswas wrote on X: “Ever since Smt @MamataOfficial announced her all – faith Sanhati rally, a faction of @BJP4India’s state leadership, goaded by @SuvenduWB, has resorted to spreading baseless propaganda.”

He further wrote: “Today, in his sheer desperation, Mr Adhikari went so far as to circulate a fraudulent notice from the WBSEDCL, eventually with the malafide intent of stoking communal tension. Realising the legal ramifications of it, he later deleted the tweet. Why hide behind such egregious lies when you know you can’t defend them?” Finance minister Chandrima Bhatacharya said the Leader of Opposition must have lost his senses. “He does not know what he is doing. Lying has become his second nature.”

Kunal Ghosh, state general secretary of Trinamul Congress, said, “How unfortunate it is that Mr Adhikari uploaded the tweet and removed it after some time realising that a major mistake has been done. He should have checked before uploading his views. What a piti able mental state,” he maintained.
