In a fresh case of violence, a Trinamul Congress leader was found dead near his house at Saikapatna under Narayangarh police station limits in West Midnapore today. Police official said the body of Ganesh Bhunia was recovered from a roadside bush near his house and bore bullet injury marks.

Bereaved family members claimed Ganesh, a TMC block leader was a victim of political issues and the BJP was involved in the crime, which the saffron brigade denied saying the factional feud within the Trinamul Congress led to the killing.

According to local residents, Ganesh went out of his home responding to a phone call last night and was found murdered with marks of wounds. Soon after he was seen by villagers, police were informed who immediately rushed to the site and retrieved the body.

Trinamul Congress leaders held the BJP responsible for the murder. “The BJP is trying to establish the politics of violence and murder in Bengal. They are resorting to killings, loot, vandalism and arson to gain control over regions. Trinamul Congress is still patiently trying to protect the democratic fabric in every possible way,” a district Trinamul Congress leader said.

“The way they are trying to terrorise people after winning just 18 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, shows their true colour. We strongly protest against their brand of politics,” the TMC leader said.

Refuting the charges, the BJP district leaders claimed that Bhunia was murdered due to the infighting within the Trinamul Congress.

The police, who have already initiated a probe into this matter, said that they have detained two persons for interrogation. “The reason behind the murder has not been ascertained yet, but we will be able to detect the assailants soon”, said a police officer. Meanwhile, a Trinamul Congress leader was critically injured when a group of alleged BJP workers attacked him near his shop at Chawktarini under Salboni police station limits and beat him up critically. The attackers also beat up his two relatives when they came forward to resist them.

The victim leader named as Niranjan Ghosh was immediately admitted in Salboni hospital, but he was later shifted to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) as his condition was critical. Trinamul Congress leaders raised finger at the BJP accusing them for unleashing attack on their leader. The BJP leaders on the other hand denied the allegation saying it was the fall out of the internal feuds in the Trinamul Congress.
