Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP, faced attacks from the Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Monday. Trinamul Congress general secretary Kunal Ghosh posted the video interview of Adhikari’s inflammatory remarks. Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress leader Sumon Ray Chaudhuri has filed an FIR against Suvendu Adhikari at the Amherst Street police station and a separate FIR has been lodged with Hare Street police station by the Congress.
Suvendu said, “He even (Rahul Gandhi) does not know how to use a kerosene stove and claims coal should be added to the stove for preparing tea in the morning. I never heard of such a process. Who is he, who is this Haridas Pal (derogatory remark),” said Suvendu in the video which Kunal Ghosh posted on X.
Trinamul’s Kunal Ghosh also condemned the “uncivilized behaviour” in politics, urging for a halt to such acts. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in West Bengal continues amid tensions, marked by road shows and confrontations, but the Congress party remains silent on the provocative remarks made by Suvendu Adhikari; only an FIR has been lodged against Suvendu in the Hare Street police station.
Meanwhile, police resorted to baton charges during the law violation movement of the BJP near the Barrackpore railway station. The rally was led by BJP’s state president and MP Sukanta Majumder. Police alleged BJP supporters threw stones at them. Sukanta alleged male police attacked women supporters of the BJP. Train passengers had a harrowing time as police also chased the BJP supporters by entering into the Barrackpore railway station.
