Justice Madhumati Mitra of Calcutta High Court kept the direction to CBI of not taking any coercive action against former head of Special Investigation Team, (SIT) probing the Saradha chit fund scam till today. The hearing of the case in which Rajeev Kumar, presently the additional director general (ADG) CID has sought quashng of the CBI petition seeking his custodial interrogation is continuing.
How can Kumar be held responsible for givingh back Debjani Mukherjee’s lap top and mobile phone to her, Milan Mukerhee appearing for the ADG, CID submitted during the day. While both she and Sudipto Sen are in custody, no prayer has been made to examine the phone so that the calls received and made can be checked to follow the money trail in the scam case, it was pointed out. Several persons have been examined and arrested whose names were mentioned in Sudipto Sen’s letter, it was stated.
But SEBI, Registrar of Companies (ROC) and other regulatory bodies and some political leaders whose names were there have not been approached yet making lending credence to the charge of selective prosecution. Let the video recording of Kumar’s examination for 39 hours and 45 minutes at Shillong be placed before the court, it was submitted. This prayer was made in the backdrop of the CBI’s charge that Kumar’s tone were evasive and aimed to protect some person.
