Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray will meet chief minister and Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on 31 August.

According to party sources, Mr Thackeray is likely to discuss the possibility of launching a joint campaign against Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Responding to Mr Thackeray’s visit, Miss Banerjee said: “He has expressed his desire to meet me. But how can I say what will be discussed at the meeting?” Mr Thackeray had demanded that the upcoming state Assembly elections in Maharashtra should be held with ballot papers instead of EVMs.

Earlier, he had met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and highlighted the EVM issue.
