Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared a ‘Janata Curfew’ on 22 March, advising people to abide by preventive guidelines, by confining themselves within their house from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. They have also been requested by the PM, to commemorate the relentless services of doctors, nurses, medical personals, policemen, media people and other social service workers by clapping hands, ringing bells and beating metallic objects at 5 p.m. for five minutes.

The common people, who are highly panicked over the spread of the deadly coronavirus, have welcomed the decision taken by the PM. However, majority of the citizens feel that one day of ‘Janata Curfew’ is just a preparatory step towards similar initiatives, directing voluntary home confinements in the future.

Many are of the opinion that, to bring an end to the deadly disease, 4 to 5 days of home confinement is necessary. It will be happily accepted by all, since a cure of the disease has not yet been found. Swami Lokottaranda Maharaj of Kamarpukur Ramkrishana Mission said, “The sounding of conches, ringing of kasha and bells, is a practice of the Vedic period.

They have divine properties which can be explained scientifically. The sounds emitted from these items, at a particular frequency, possess the power to deactivate deadly diseases caused by different microbes. Therefore, there is nothing wrong in clapping hands, ringing bells and beating metallic and brass object to express a heartfelt gratitude to our most dedicated and devoted brothers and sisters.

This ancient method has been put to use by great thinkers and holy men. It can sterilise the atmosphere from disease causing agents which are still applicable in today’s world of Science and Technology.”
