Police personnel will now get an additional salary for 52 days. A notification in this regard has been issued by the state home and hill affairs department.
The move has been taken in recognition of their rendering services even on weekly off days and holidays. This comes soon after chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced in the Assembly that the personnel would be paid additional salary for 52 days instead of 30 days.
“The police work additional 52 days compared to officials in other departments but get additional salary for only 30 days. The government will prepare a plan to compensate those working with the police. They toil tirelessly, through all seasons and festivals, ensuring the security of the entire population. This is the least we can do,” Miss Banerjee had said in the Assembly.
According to sources, officials get two weekly off days (Saturday and Sunday) but the police have only day a week off. So, the step has been taken to get rid of disparity.
Presently, police get 30 days of additional pay which mean they receive 13 months pay against 12 months work. Now, they would receive an additional 22 days pay.
The notification would be effective for officers of and below the rank of Deputy Superintendents/ Assistant Commissioners of police.
According to the notification, the Governor has approved “Proposal of payment in one lump of cash compensation equivalent to 52 days pay and dearness allowance to police officers or police personnel of or below the rank of Deputy Superintendents/ Assistant Commissioners of police for deprivation of weekly off days and gazetted holidays for every completed year ending on 30 June of every year.”
The notification will come into effect immediately.
