Number of Corona cases continue to surge in Kolkata

The number of Coronavirus cases in the state continued to rise though the number of patients discharged from hospitals in a single day has been higher than the number of fresh cases.

The state recorded 407 fresh Corona cases while 434 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours.

The total case count has risen to 11,494 and 5,494 Corona patients have been cured till now. Currently, there are 5,515 active cases in the state.

The number of Corona cases continued to surge in Kolkata, Howrah and North 24-Parganas with Malda adding to the list today. The city recorded 104 cases followed by North 24-Parganas and Malda with 56 cases while 36 cases were recorded in Howrah.

As a result of the steep rise in Corona cases in the city, there has been an increase in containment zones with 1,264 areas presently under such zones.

North 24 Parganas has 219 containment zones and 144 buffer areas. Ten people died due to the infection since yesterday taking the total death toll to 485. Four persons died in Kolkata, three in North 24 Parganas, two in Howrah and one in South 24-Parganas.

Meanwhile, state finance department has come up with a software to monitor the performance of its employees working from home. Under which, employees will have to log in to the software wherein the department will be able to monitor their performance and office hours.

State government has already stated that only asymptomatic employees shall be allowed to attend office on rotation basis. According to a notification issued in this regard stated: “Anyone with symptoms of mild fever, cough and cold need not attend office, and officers and staff residing in the containment zones shall not come to office. He/she will work from home till the area is declared as a Clear Area (category C)”.
