Newly elected TMC Panchayat Samity member shot dead

Even after the formation of the Panchayat boards, panchayat poll-related violence persists. Sheikh Saheb Ali, a candidate of the Trinamul Congress (TMC) in Haroa, who had won election to the Panchayat samity in Haroa was shot dead last night. Ali was returning home last night he became the target of a hail of bullets on Haroa Road.

The family and locals have alleged that nearly eight to ten rounds of bullets were fired at him. The incident has raised tensions in the Trinamul camp, with accusations of factionalism within the party contributing to the incident. After the incident, the area witnessed protests and demonstrations against the killing of the Trinamul leader. Saturday saw elections for the positions of Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan in the region. Sheikh Saheb was vying for the Pradhan position. However, he was unable to secure victory.

After the results, on his way home, he was targeted with a barrage of bullets in the Shamla Bazar area. According to locals, Sheikh Saheb was returning home on a motorcycle. At that moment, he became the target of a hail of bullets. The assailants allegedly looted him and left his body lying in the field. Following the incident, locals informed the police, who reached the scene and retrieved the body.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident has shaken the community and the local area. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the murder and to apprehend those responsible.
