Milan Utsav seeks to better facilitate state’s job seekers

The city’s iconic Milan Utsav this year has brought some good news for job seekers. The event has brought opportunities for job-seekers with emphasis on two special segments of engineering diploma holders and non-diploma aspirants at the ongoing job fair.

The Milan Utsav is held every year at Park Circus Maidan and is organised by the West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (WBMDFC). The event this year is to be held for five days, was officially inaugurated yesterday and is to continue till 31 January.

According to the official sources in the development corporation, the event is slated to have several programme including a job fair Last year, around 13,000 youths had applied for jobs of whom about 300 were from the districts. Around 600 were given offer letters.

“This year, efforts are being made to strengthen the network at the job fairs. For this, the WBMDFC has tied up with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT),” informed an official. DoPT is the coordinating agency of the central government for recruitment training career development and staff welfare As elaborated by official sources, the development corporation that provides scholarships to meritorious students under the Aikyashree scheme, is giving particular emphasis on two sections. In the job fair section, there are two sections on focus. “

One is for the aspirants having engineering diplomas. There is a special section with eminent companies hiring aspirants from this section. The other segment is for the non-diploma aspirants starting from Madhyamik pass outs or even graduates.

According to the official sources in the WBMDFC, efforts are being given in this section with a special focus to maximize job opportunities for aspirants in this section,” elucidated an official.
