Chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the Bhawanipore Girls High School today to wish luck to the examinees and find out how they are faring in their exams.
The chief minister visited the school straight from her Kalighat residence house this morning, which is close to her home. She stayed there for about five minutes and talked to the students and the local residents.
Meanwhile, after allegations of the Madhyamik exam paper leak, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is now asserting stringent measures to prevent carrying of mobile phones by students to exam centres. As the higher secondary examinations are to start from 14 March, the board yesterday
issued a notification to higher secondary school head venue supervisors, teachers, centre-in-charge, centre secretary convener, convenor, joint convenor urging them to incorporate a stringent system to check that no students carry mobile phones inside the examination hall during the exams.
For students found carrying mobile phones to the exam venue, the council has instructed to cancel their exam.
The HS exams are scheduled to end on 27 March and the results are expected to be in the second week of June. For the upcoming exams, the WBCHSE council is said to have identified 235 centres as sensitive venues. The WBCHSE has asked to make arrangements for metal detectors at the main gates of these venues to detect mobile phones and other electronic gadgets.
Notably, for the upcoming HS exams, the WBCHSE has appointed two council nominees, each for main venues and sub-venues. In addition, the council has also asked to keep two invigilators in a room who would keep a strict watch to ensure that no students carry mobile phones at the exam centre.
