Kids of panchayat karmadhyaksha die in road mishap

Both the children of a panchayat samiti karmadhyaksha were killed, while the karmadhyaksha and her husband survived the fatal road mishap but suffered critical injuries after a speeding lorry hit their motorcycle in Bankura last night. They have been shifted to the Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital.

Ria Lohar, the karmadhyaksha of the Trinamul Congress-governed Simlapal panchayat samiti had accompanied her daughter Pothi (3) and son Rishi (5) while attending a poll campaign at Bankura town to woo support in favour of her party candidate Arup Chakraborty. She’d come to the gathering with others by a bus hired by her party that on their way back had dropped Ria and her minor children at the pick-up point at Koima village crossing at 8pm where Ria’s husband was waiting for them on his motorcycle.

Ria, her children sat on the pillion of the bike for their remaining journey to Jambedia village, about 3 km from the place. As stated by Debashis Guli, health karmadhyaksha of the panchayat samiti: “A speeding lorry, coming from the town end, rammed into the bike and intensity killed both the children before they could be rescued and shifted to the hospital.” The lorry, according to the police, has not yet been traced
