Health dept directives to prevent dengue

The state health department and panchayat department are all set to take necessary precautionary steps against dengue to nip it in the bud.

Usually, the drive against the vector-borne disease is intensified a month before the onset of monsoon. Yet, Dengue cases were reported in some blocks of the districts and panchayat areas. Hence, both the departments have taken a decision to take necessary precautionary steps against dengue from now onwards. They have issued directives to districts and panchayats to promptly step in to destroy the favourable breeding ground of dengue larvae and take other accessory steps to prevent the outbreak and spread of dengue.

Last year, parts of Hooghly district and some adjacent panchayat areas were declared dengue zone. The panchayat department has already marked different parts of Hooghly district municipalities and panchayats, among them are 2-blocks of Hooghly, 5 panchayats areas Balagarh block-Jirat, Guptipara-2 and Sripur- Balagarh panchayat.

The state health and panchayat departments have issued directives to the district administration to step in to prevent the outbreak of dengue. The district administration has issued directives to the local bodies of the district, including the panchayats to promptly step in to destroy the possible breeding grounds of dengue mosquitoes, to keep the drainage system free of obstruction, not to allow garbage to pile up, to spread anti-mosquito oil and to intensify awareness programme among common people. The panchayat department is also to roll out vehicles with theme-based awareness programmes based on audio and visual presentation.

Funds have been released to the district administration to promptly start the drive against dengue.
