ED registers case to probe fake vaccine camps in Kolkata

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case to probe the matter of fraudulent Covid-19 vaccination camps organised in Kolkata that came to the surface with one Debanjan Deb getting arrested for committing such a fraud.

An ED source said that the probe agency has registered a case to investigate the alleged money laundering angle in the matter.

The source said that the agency had collected documents of the case that was registered by the Kolkata Police who have arrested seven persons, including Deb who posed as an IAS officer.

The case is currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kolkata Police’s Detective Department.

Deb (28), posing as a joint commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, had organised fake inoculation camps in the Kasba area of Kolkata. He was arrested on June 23 after more than 100 people, including Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty, were administered fake vaccine shots.

The MP along with other victims of Deb had witnessed mild sickness with body aches that were however attributed to panic mostly. Most of them underwent health check-ups in KMC camps.
