Cops begin probe of Class IX student with firearms

The police have started investigating an arms case after thorough interrogation of a Class IX student of a secondary school in Dakshin Dinajpur, today. The Banshihari police station took the Class IX student into custody after recovering an improvised firearm and a live cartridge from his school bag yesterday. During a book distribution programme in the Sudarshannagar PHHVI High School at Patharghata, another student noticed the firearm in his bag and informed a school teacher.

School teachers immediately detained the student and asked to open his school bag. Teachers were taken aback after finding the improvised firearm in his school bag. They immediately informed the Banshihari police station. The police seized the weapon and one cartridge from his possession and detained him for interrogation.

Following this incident, a group of guardians came to meet the headmaster today and discussed safety and security of other students. The IC of the police station, M Sarkar said a case has been registered. “We have a started thorough investigation and trying to know the association of that student,” Mr Sarkar said.
