Trinamul Congress chairperson Miss Mamata Banerjee will address a public meeting in Meghalaya on 18 January. The meeting will be held at Dilma Apal playground, Mendipathans in North Gari Hills. She will be accompanied by Mr Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary, party Rajya Sabha MP Derek O Brien and Dr Manas Bhuniya, West Bengal minister for Environment who is in charge of Meghalaya will attend the meeting.
TMC Meghalaya president Mr Charles Pyngrope and the Leader of Opposition Mr Mukul Sangma will be present at the meeting. This will be Miss Banerjee’s second visit to Meghalaya. She was on a two day tour to the state in December 2022. Trinamul has announced plans for a scheme to provide financial assistance to women and 3.14 lakh women have already registered their names. Meghalaya is going for Assembly election in 2023.
Trinamul has opened a party office and will field candidates in the state. The party will highlight the failure of the BJP government to run the state. There are no industries and unemployment is mounting. In December Miss Banerjee had told the people that she would address the border dispute with Assam and take up the issue with the Home ministry.
Also, ahead of the upcoming Tripura Assembly elections, Miss Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit the Bengalidominated state by the monthend, according to agency reports. Trinamul national General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the chief minister’s nephew, is also likely to accompany her on the trip.
