The CBI today informed the Calcutta High Court that it was ready to probe into the alleged diversion of central funds should it be ordered by the court.

The central probe agency today said in its reply, as asked by the court, during a hearing of a public interest litigation on the alleged misappropriation of central funds allotted for different schemes.

The PIL on alleged diversion of central funds was filed by the BJP leader Jagannath Chatterjee based on a report compiled by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in 2021.

The further hearing on this particular matter would take place next week.

The BJP’s stand to move the Calcutta High Court seeking CBI probe into the alleged anomaly in proper use of the central funds allotted in different schemes stemmed from the fact when the party alleged that central funds meant for midday meal scheme had allegedly been diverted to suit the interests of a particular section of the people allegedly leaning to the ruling party.

Similarly, the party also cried foul of alleged misuse of central funds as a dole by the state government to compensate victims of Bogtui carnage.
